The third-most desirable place in the world to live in
Located on a volcanic plateau, Buderim takes its name from the local Kabi Kabi Aboriginal “Badderam”, or hairpin honeysuckle, which grew quite abundantly in what is now an urban centre on the Sunshine Coast. Aside from the honeysuckle, Buderim’s fertile soil proved to be suited to grow almost anything, including coffee, bananas and ginger.
Later, Buderim became an elevated health resort for city dwellers, but house blocks quickly sprung up in the 1960s, as the Sunshine Coast became a more popular residential area. Its spectacular view of the Glasshouse Mountains has turned the Sunshine Coast’s oldest established European settlement into a homeowner’s dream that still echoes its village heritage.
Culture buffs, take note: remember to drop by one of the many rare bookstores and galleries that can be found in the town. The Buderim Forest Waterfall Walk, Foote Sanctuary and Buderim Falls are also not to be missed.
